This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in the poorest congressional district in the United States, the South Bronx. 91% of my students require free or reduced price lunch. They are determined, hardworking and oh so funny. My students are hungry learners and are so thankful for their limited resources. They all have great plans for going to college one day and I want to help achieve that. My students are filled with energy everyday.
They come in early and stay late for office hours.
They are serious learners and they know how behind they are in reading, math and writing. I don't want the school system to fail them and I want them to experience more than simply the South Bronx.
My Project
Technology in the classroom is often under-utilized; however, with such great resources available to all, it is imperative to implement into the daily classroom routine. Looked at as exciting, interesting, and a break from standard learning, students jump at any opportunity to use the technologies made available to them. Technology Time is one of many factors that contribute to student success and achievement of goals. Technology engages my students but also, helps them be college ready which is my ultimate goal. Thus, I need another laptop.
All of my lessons are available online for students who are absent; however, many of my students lack laptops or technology at home to even catch up.
The more laptops I have, the more accessible the lessons are for students who may not get it the first time around for various reasons. It allows students to have individualized education because not every student can learn the same thing in the same time frame or the same way.
