My students need an iPad mini 2 that they can take with them to assist them anywhere. A visual noiseless timer will help them be on time without being noticed.
I have 10 students who all have significant disabilities ,and we are learning life skills. In our classroom we enjoy math, reading, writing, science, social studies like everyone else, but we also enjoy yoga to strengthen muscles, art and music for creativity and we run a class store selling crayons.
My students are in a self-contained classroom program that is tailor made to their individual abilities and disabilities.
Each student is on free and reduced lunch (low income). Each student wants to learn and grow through their challenges and be an active part of society. Every student spends a portion of their day with their typically developing peers for socialization and to practice skills taught in the classroom. They are a joy and bring smiles to everyone who works with them.
My Project
The ipad will be very beneficial to the students who are unable to write due to hand deformities/lack of muscle control. This will allow them the ability to complete projects like their peers using the touch screen option especially when with their typically developing peers.
The visual timer will allow my students to be self monitors and know when they need to do what, without the sound a of loud timer ringing and drawing embarrassing attention to themselves especially when with their typically developing peers
The ipad will give opportunity to those students who can't write the ability to have written expression and continue to grow and learn.
We currently do not have portable technology in the classroom and when my students are included with their peers, they are unable to participate in general education curriculum.
During this inclusion participation, the visual noiseless timer will be very value able to help them stay on task and without being disruptive to the other students.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
