My Students

In the 21st century, students need to be fully engaged. The use of technology tools in the classroom is necessary. My goal is to help create problem solvers and to bolster students' conceptual understandings through projects and tasks.

My math classes are very diverse.

My students represent all racial, socioeconomic, and religious groups in our city. One of my goals for my 6th grade math students is to prepare them for Algebra 1 in the 8th grade since this is the path each of them are on.

My Project

To take my students out of their comfort zone to solve non-routine problems and to work as a cohesive unit, my students need a way to show the class their mathematical thinking for solving such problems. To do this, my students need a document camera to be able to display their work and to justify their mathematical thinking to the class. As the teacher and facilitator, my job is to provide students with projects/tasks to aid the students into becoming life-long problem solvers. The students will work collaboratively with groups to develop a strategy to solve these projects/tasks. The document camera will provide them the opportunity to explain and justify their mathematical reasoning.

A document camera in the classroom will change students' lives for the better so they can see there are multiple strategies to solve a problem.

When students can share their work for the class through a document camera, students can easily see and understand others' mathematical thinking for problem solving tasks.
