Technology in the Classroom

My students need Chromebooks to supplement and access the technology component of our common core standards.

My Students

I am very excited to add technology directly to the classroom. Students will be able to practice computers skills and typing as well as access all areas of the curriculum either directly or as a supplemental activity. Students will directly benefit from hands-on access to technology.

I teach at a K-5 school in a middle class neighborhood.

While we have an active PTA, we don't receive a lot of supplemental money from the community. We are not Title 1 so we don't receive extra funding. Our school has about 40% of students on free or reduced lunch and is composed of many ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. We have students with a variety of learning styles and a wide range of abilities. The students are bright, inquisitive and deserving of the best education possible and technology is a huge component of today's education.

My Project

I am hoping to use the Chromebooks so that all students have access at different times-based on their needs. Students can use them as a supplement to reinforce curriculum we are studying or as an intervention if they are struggling with a skill or concept. I am also hoping the students can practice basic computer navigational skills by researching various topics of study or interest. Students will also be able to practice typing skills which is essential in efficiently communicating in today's world. They can also type and edit their stories and eventually publish their writing.

Use of technology, particularly in the classroom, is increasing everyday.

While we are in a middle class neighborhood, not all students have access to computers at home. Practicing computer skills is essential to every student's success-particularly as they get older when many of their assignments will be computer based. The Chromebooks I am asking for will allow all of my students the opportunity to access and utilize technology in a non threatening environment.
