My students are some of the brightest students that Arkansas has to offer. They have persevered through many obstacles to get to where they are and they will graduate high school no matter what!
We are a low income school and my students need technology to be able to foster their creativity.
Our students are roughly 70% minority and 65% receive free or reduced-price lunches. Many come from single-parent homes, face poverty every day, and some walk to school every morning. Our group of schools serve about 30% of military families from the Little Rock Airforce Base here in Jacksonville, Arkansas. No matter their background, our students face obstacles every day and I am proud of every one of them.
My Project
My students need the DigiLand tablets so that they can find reference images online and do research in art class. In the art room, technology is just as important as any other core subject.
I love giving students the freedom to use the art process they learned to create their own artwork, but this is often difficult without technology.
Reference images are an important part of the art-making process, and the internet is full of those images. My students need the capability to be able to use technology to become better artists and learn from other artists. This will give them a chance to research art history, find artists that might interest them, and learn about art from different cultures. The internet is a large place filled with art; my students just need the resources to get there.
