Our community has more than three-quarters of the students from low-income households and I want to give them the best opportunities to succeed. I teach in an outdoor classroom. My students range from 6th grade through high school seniors. These are very hard-working student-athletes that want to compete at a very high level and improve their craft. My student-athletes get hands-on experience, learn how to communicate, teamwork, build leadership qualities and build their confidence on and off the field. These young ladies do a great job of representing their sport, families and their school.
My Project
Our outdoor classroom provides the student-athletes a different style of learning than in the traditional classroom. These young ladies will be learning how to hit different types of pitches: fastballs, change-ups, curveballs, screwballs, rise balls, and drop balls with hands-on experience. Our current softball bats are 4+ years old and need to be replaced with the new softball bat technology. Players will be able to use these new softball bats to practice the correct fundamentals of hitting, bunting, and slapping. Through the purchase of these softball bats our student-athletes will become more successful in their sport and hopefully, their confidence will carry over into the traditional classroom.
