My students need these four iPod Touches to have access to additional literacy and mathematics opportunities in centers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how you felt when you would pop your favorite CD into the CD player only to find out that your favorite song was scratched? Our students face this reality time and time again when they wish to listen to their favorite books or play various computer games.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners and come from a poverty background.
Our school commits to having a longer day (7:00-5:00) in an effort to keeping children off the streets and to allow them to have a safe place to stay until their parents get off work. A longer school day and a longer school year that includes summer school is the commitment that we make to our students because we want them to have a better chance in life and to try and close the achievement gap.
My Project
At this time my students' technology is limited to one computer and an older CD player. We would like to bring iPod Touches into the classroom to allow the students to integrate technology into their centers. Two of the iPod Touches would replace the CD player and allow for us to upload our story CDs on the iPod Touches. This would allow the students to change the story that they read more frequently and cut back on CD loss due to scratching. By eliminating the switching of the CDs we would allow the students to have more independence over their learning as well as autonomy. The students would be able to listen to stories that we record through voice memos allowing us to save money on buying additional CDs. The other two iPod Touches would be for a math and literacy technology centers. This would allow students to access a multitude of educational games that they would otherwise not have access to.
With the fast pace that technology is going and the benefits that it can bring about, I feel that these students should have the same opportunities as students from more affluent backgrounds.
