This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are the most amazing children. Despite facing socioeconomic challenges, they come to school every day ready to learn. It makes my day when they all of the sudden "get it" and the little light bulb goes on or they want to know more about a book we are reading. For this reason, I am starting this project.
Our school is a Title I Renaissance School.
Our student population is 87.83% Hispanic, 1.50% Asian, 2.67% Black, 6.17% White, and 1.83% Multi Racial. Most of our students are from low income families which is reflected by our 91.1% free or reduced price lunch status.
My Project
The world is moving towards technology at a breathtaking pace. Educators have the responsibility to introduce, encourage, and help students master technology, as it applies to school and the future. Technology will be used in every aspect of the professional lives of current students. So upon graduation, whether the next step is college or career, technology will be used daily. Why not use it daily in school? Technology tracks and reports students' progress. This feedback provides instant motivation to improve performance in students who use technology. Just like they do at home on their gaming consoles, trying to beat high scores at home and trying to beat high scores in math use the same psychology.
This project was created because my classroom is not yet at the level technologically to meet my students' needs as learners.
This project will help to close the gap just a little bit. I am asking for two HP Chromebooks. These chromebooks will provide my students with access to the computer programs available through our school district to help support the curriculum and give them instant practice on skills I teach each day. I am want to set up a station where my students will have access to math and reading support via the computer.
I am asking for your help along with Google's One-To-One Matching Donation campaign, to fund two Chromebooks so that my students can have access to the computer programs available through our school district during their independent work time, whether it be to support students struggling with specific skills or to enrich those students ready to take their learning to the next level.
More than half of students from low‑income households
