Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is very diverse. The diversity can be seen in both the ethnicity and economic levels of our students. This means that some students have done well during COVID while many have struggled. Due to this, some of our students come to class prepared, but many more are coming to class behind, lacking prerequisite skills.

We need to be sure students catch up and do not fall further behind.

All of our students want to do well and can succeed if we give them the opportunity. We need another avenue for teaching students at home that are excluded as well as students who are in person and may have trouble seeing the board. Our lessons need to be projected for all to see through the use of a Surface Pro.

My Project

Students with COVID and those who have been exposed are excluded from school and are missing class. They are expected to learn from home. This means that they are not able to participate in a regular classroom setting. Teachers try to help by recording videos of the lessons, but with videos, students can't ask questions. Teachers also try to help these students by Zooming class or having Teams meetings during class. Unfortunately with desktop and laptop computers, teachers are tied to the computer and not able to walk around easily to help the in class students. Either the at home students or in class students are ignored. With a Surface Pro a teacher can hold it and walk around helping both groups of students.

This will help with all Nevada Academic Content Standards in Mathematics, especially the standards best taught visually.

The Standards expect students to used appropriate tools. This includes the use of technology to solve problems and model mathematics. Students and teachers will be able to use this technology to graph, solve, and model mathematics. There is no one specific math standard this will address, it addresses them all.
