This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our brand new STEMM magnet is hurting for financial support from our cash-strapped district. We have a huge teacher waiting list for LCD projectors and document cameras that are essential tools in the digital age, especially for my tech-savvy readers and writers.

My students are some of the most talented young people in our district with a passion for STEMM~Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine.

They finally have a magnet that is devoted to making them competitive in these critical fields. They will graduate high school with seven years of science classes and electives, and my job is to help them use English Language Arts to communicate their ideas creatively, analytically, and persuasively. I want to inspire my students by using the latest forms of media to show them how many options there are for sharing their STEMM journey with others.

My Project

Podcasts like RadioLab, videos from TED talks, and articles that illuminate the latest scientific breakthroughs will help inspire my scholars to find compelling ways to share their own learning in STEMM fields. All of these require technology to bring these stories to students quickly and efficiently. An LCD projector allows me to use the Internet to share the latest from the world of science in a way that is relevant and inspiring to my tech-savvy students. A document camera lets me share an interesting article from today's newspaper instantly, without having to make hundreds of unnecessary copies. We can also revise and edit sample essays without using messy old-school transparencies. Stellar student work can be projected for the whole class to learn from right away. Without an LCD projector and a document camera my class misses out on so many exciting ways of learning new information.

We live in a time when compelling stories, writing, and news come in a variety of forms.

Without the technology to incorporate this new media in everyday curriculum, we short-change students who must graduate high school ready to communicate in our evolving digital society. With an LCD projector and document camera I can help my STEMM scholars be cutting edge communicators as well as scientists.
