Technology Helps Create an Exciting Classroom Environment!
Help me give my students iPads to use for reading and math as well as a color printer, so that I can help create an exciting classroom environment in which my students can flourish!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach students who come from bilingual homes. They are sweet, caring and eager to learn. Most of my students are not getting the support they need at home because the parents are unable to help them with their academics. The majority of my students don't have access to books and technology outside of the classroom. This year I'm looping with many of the students I had last year. So, I know them very well. They loved using different websites for reading and math. This was another way to enrich their instruction in the classroom.
My Project
I struggle with getting my students to read independently for an extended period of time. I've noticed that when they have had the opportunity to use iPads or laptops to read they enjoy independent reading more. I do have access to some technology in my room. I make a schedule for the week, so all my students get to use the iPads at least once or twice a week.
Having an additional iPad in the classroom will allow my students to have the chance to enrich their reading skills as well as foster their love of reading.
The color printer allows me to help my ELL learners with vocabulary. The use of picture word association greatly improves my students understanding of what they are reading. Whether it's during my Guided reading lessons or in a center activity the use of a color printer will make a significant impact in my lessons.
