Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The JJ Jungle is a place where primary students come to learn basic reading skills. Many of my students do not live in literature-rich environments. Obtaining Chromebooks could be the key to helping our students love books and language and to make Jungle their favorite part of the school day!

I work with 35 to 40 students per day.

They are in the primary grades, kindergarten through third grade. Our school has primarily lower socioeconomic to middle class students, many of which speak English as their second language. Many of our students do not have personal libraries at home; therefore, they do not come to school with an internal love of reading. Our school emphasizes the importance of reading for a variety of reasons every single day.

My Project

These Chromebooks will be used daily for many different tasks. They will allow students to use a variety of literature-based applications. Reading websites can be used to engage students and get them excited about learning. Also they will allow me, the teacher, a chance to track my students' progress and determine areas in which they need more assistance. Students will be able to practice their word processing skills and publish many of their writing pieces as we tie writing into each story we read. In addition, the Chromebooks will give my Jungle students a chance to do more interesting research on various topics and create exciting projects using a variety of sites.

Our school has a school-wide reading incentive program each year.

This year's theme is "Peace, Love and Reading." How awesome will these Chromebooks be to support our program for the youngest readers that attend the JJ Jungle! They will teach these students to learn to love books, reading, and most importantly learning. This love for learning will follow my students throughout the grades and throughout their lives.
