My Students
My students are special because, as high school seniors, they have a few short months from entering our community with the full privileges of citizenship. Regardless of gender, race, creed or wealth, my students receive a high quality education on the importance of civic engagement.
My students won't be just another American, they will be civically engaged members of our community.
Each student completes a civic engagement project which requires them to go out into our community and observe public meetings, court and political events. Students also have options to contact representatives, dive deeply into local issues and engage in political forums. Students have agency over their choices of projects and most realize that with involvement, their actions make change.
My Project
Visuals are an essential element of any learning. Imagine assembling IKEA furniture without diagrams! A new classroom computer will allow me to display civic engagement opportunities, play games, and brainstorm projects.
Visual displays will breathe life into lessons and class time.
For instance, Last year, we were fortunate enough to zoom with the Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court. My existing computer, which is about the same age as my students, doesn't have enough memory to run zoom and PowerPoint together. We got through the presentation, but not without awkward technology issues.
