Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are eagles and we soar to great heights! This is the motto that we chant every morning and my students have never failed to live up to these expectations.

My students come to school ready to learn, eager to grow and excited to show what they know.

Although, they all come from an economically depressed neighborhood in the west side of Baltimore City, they do not allow their environment to dictate to them how far they can go.

"What are we learning today Ms. Harmon?" This is a common refrain among my students. They take their education seriously and they hold their teachers accountable for coming to school ready to teach everyday. With students like this what teacher wouldn't do everything to help them meet success.

My Project

My students would benefit to greater access to technology including laptops. Currently we do not have enough laptops to meet testing deadlines without a lot of shuffling and teamwork. And while it is great to show our students how we can accomplish much with little, we believe that our students would meet with greater success with more access to technology.

We will use our laptops to assist teachers in the classroom with instruction, as well as to help us during testing season when access to technology is at a premium.

Our school is small, our resources are scarce, but our will is strong and it is my goal to help my school be an enriching environment for all of our students.
