My Project
I teach high school at a Minneapolis City School. Unfortunately, we don't always get the technology needed to ensure things run as smoothly as they do at our suburban counterparts that seem to have all the technology needed.
Our district leases computers for teacher use.
These computers are upgraded every 3 years. However; sometimes the new computers don't work with the supporting technology that we had with the older computer. For example, my "new" computer does not work with my old docking station. I need a docking station to support all the other technology that actually runs off of my computer. I need to be able to run multiple monitors, plug multiple devices in, run my document camera, etc... I do not have this ability with the new computer alone.
With the docking station, I have the ability to run multiple monitors. This gives me the ability to run the "big promethean" board from my computer and simultaneously have other programs open like math programs that we use in the classroom. This way I can keep the promethean board displaying with the class notes and run the same program that the students are using on the other monitors so I can follow along with them.
With the docking station I am also able to easily plug a student computer in and able to project that to the class to demonstrate model work and examples.
This is technology that I am used to for my classroom and it simply did not get funded when the district switched out the computers.
It would be great to get the new docking station and an extra monitor to continue to give students a high quality experience and for me to be productive with my own work.
