Technology For The Classroom

Help me give my students technology in the classroom by providing a new MacBook for the classroom. We currently have 1 computer for the entire class and it is a MacBook Pro that is over 10 years old.

My Students

My students are awesome. We live in a small suburb of Oakland and have a very diverse population. I teach US History to 11th-12th grade non-English speaking students. Trying to foster a love of learning history at this age is sometimes challenging, but creating meaningful and engaging lessons has made all of the difference.

This year, we have our highest amount of English Language Learners in the classroom as well as resource students that have been mainstreamed.

Although these students need extra support, they need exactly the same love, dedication and focus that I give to all of my students.

My Project

In order to provide a learning environment in which all students can learn, it is necessary to use visual images projected for my English Language Learners. My current computer has become almost obsolete, freezing regularly and unfortunately running very slowly. A new laptop would allow me to communicate to newcomers at the speed necessary to delivery grade level content in a meaningful way. Reaching these students is vital to their success in not only high school, but as they contribute effectively to society as adults.

I teach EL US History and the use of visual images speaks across all languages.

This laptop will also be used in my 9th grade Geography class to project the regions of the world through maps and images. Having a computer with a high graphic output makes the world come alive and allows students to see details they would otherwise miss. Through this laptop, we will also be viewing films, listening to global music and languages and playing interactive learning games.
