Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am lucky to teach in a two-way bilingual immersion setting. It is amazing to see students learn language from each other, whether it be Spanish learners from English learners, or vice versa. I have a fourth grade class of culturally diverse students eager to achieve their learning goals. They are extremely motivated, focused and eagerly welcome new challenges.
Using a new Language Arts program this year (in both Spanish and English), I find my class being limited by inconsistent access to technology.
School hours may be the only time my students get exposed to a lot of technology and I want to help them explore their interests in art, math, language arts, and technology in an environment where they feel safe to try new ideas.
My Project
I am requesting one iPad with headphones. Students will be able to use the iPad for our daily language arts and math lessons. With the iPad in the class, students can access text and support materials and also use Benchmark Language Arts curriculum. We have also been using all Google Classroom apps that the students enjoy using. We would use this iPad for video presentations that are done in class and use the iPad for various math applications to help students master their multiplication and division facts.
Technology literacy is a crucial 21st century skill for today's students.
At our school site, we currently share chrome carts. This means limited and inconsistent access to technology. My wish is to increase the access and use of technology so that my students are much more prepared for their future endeavors.
