This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A challenge for my students is that they live in a high tech world but lack the technology in our class needed to be a 21st century learner. Today's learners are so accustomed to visual and digital media and can not rely solely on textbooks to learn the curriculum.
My students attend a public elementary Title 1 school located in Southern California.
This year I have a 6th grade Math and Science block with over 40 students. My students come from a diverse range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds with a variety of learning styles, but they all have the desire to learn about the world.
My Project
My students need a projector to bring what we're learning in our Math and Science curriculum to life. The projector will be a daily asset in enhancing the curriculum, from just looking at a textbook or whiteboard to bringing real-world examples into the classroom. I will be able to project online resources, video clips, and PowerPoint slides to the class to make learning more accessible for all students. Learning will be more interactive through the use of games like Jeopardy. Students will be able to view notable speakers on sites like Ted Talks or see how tectonic plates move on the surface of the Earth. Students will be given opportunities to collaborate and effectively communicate to each other what they're learning through digital media presentations using the projector.
Having a projector in the classroom will help students be more engaged in their learning as well as bring us into the 21st century.
Students will leave my class at the end of the year having had a fuller educational experience as well as having the presentation skills necessary as they continue on to middle school, high school, and college. Any donation is greatly appreciated.
