Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school was established in 1928 and has been serving a small community for many generations. It is a Title I school where a lot of my students qualify for the reduced price or free lunch program. Many students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. There are 16 different languages spoken at my school. Most are English language learners, speaking English as their second language.
My 5-year-old kindergarten students usually come into kindergarten not knowing much, but it's amazing to watch them learn and grow over the school year.
Many students say they are having so much fun that they want to come to school even on weekends.
My Project
I'm trying to update the technology in my classroom. Having only 2 available computers is not sufficient for all my students to share. I hope to have enough for a small group of students to use during literacy and math center time. My students mainly use the computers to go on to Starfall where it has great reading and math activities for my young students. They get to blend sounds to read, listen to stories, count, add, subtract, and much more using the computers.
It would be awesome to be able to have a new touch screen Surface Pro in the classroom for daily use with the Smart Board and for my students during center time.
