I teach first grade in a rural Title I school in Central Wisconsin. My classroom is full of technology motivated learners. I have students from all different walks of life and different backgrounds, yet everyday they come to school for the same purpose: to grow and to learn!
Have you ever felt left out or behind?
Unlike most of us, many of my students do not have computers at home. Their experiences with devices in my classroom are the only place they are exposed to technology.
These students need to be given an opportunity to explore the world outside of books or stories. They need to build background knowledge and be given the opportunity to explore topics in depth. With computers in the classroom the possibilities are endless. The children can use them to word process writing pieces, create presentations and become engaged in education games.
My Project
Having two Chromebooks in the classroom will give more of my students the opportunity to use technology that most of the world uses on a daily basis. My students will be able to enrich their learning and review skills they have not yet mastered. The students will be able to word process, research topics, create presentations, play educational games and use literacy programs reader to improve their reading comprehension. With computers in the classroom, the possibilities are endless.
My project is important because each child has the ability to grow and these resources will foster that ability.
I don't want my students to feel limited by the lack of resources, but rather to feel empowered and limitless with how technology can enhance their lives. With your support and by bringing technology into the classroom, we can do just that!
