My students need 3 iPads and iPad cases, so that they can utilize amazing online resources and applications, to build their foudational reading skills.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
-Dr. Seuss
In my reading intervention classroom, we work daily to create independent and confident readers. Students know that reading is essential to reach their goals in life.
My classroom is a reading intervention class.
I work with 28 students, all of which are behind grade level in reading. Their skills are varied, but all are motivated to succeed and help build up their classmates. My students are kind and respectful. They also care about their success and their goals drive their independent work. Our school is an amazing place! Technology is integrated across the campus and we strive to prepare our students for the technology driven world. In addition, students all have a special place in our school, due to the positive environment created by the staff and administration. I am lucky to work with this population of students in this amazing school!
My Project
Technology has already been integrated into our classroom. Students use iPads for reading assessments, looking up definitions of words, collaborative work, and working on phonological awareness through an application created by Spalding. The addition of these iPads will allow for more integration, so that more students can work with these programs during the class period. In addition, my lowest readers will begin using these iPads daily. They will be working on Raz Kids, a program created by Reading A to Z. This will give them daily practice in reading and reading comprehension. They will receive instant feedback, so that they can check their understanding. This will allow them to reflect on what they have read and will ultimately improve their comprehension skills. This will bring them closer to grade level, so that they may be successful and confident in their abilities.
Donations made to this project will improve our classroom in several ways.
Besides how it will greatly improve students' reading skills, it will also reduce frustration among students. With more iPads available, more students will be able to utilize the technology during the class period. Students will be using this technology to improve their reading skills, so that they can do anything they want in life; whether that is being a scientist, a barista, or simply having a driver's license.
