Technology For Science

My students need access to technology in the classroom. Scholars will use the Chromebooks to help them stay abreast to current scientific research discoveries and assignments.

My Students

My scholars are 7th-9th grade young men who are traditionally under served. We serve scholars with a range of abilities. The typical scholar in my class reads at a third- fourth grade level and many struggle with basic phonics and number sense. It is important for my scholars to have the opportunity to access the power tools of the 21st century. The school is located in the heart of Harlem. Most of the students live within the neighborhood and others commute from long distances. Those individuals that live far typically try and complete their homework in school. This project will give students the opportunity to explore and access technology in the classroom to aide in their scientific research, discovery and assignments. My students are wonderful and a joy to teach.

My Project

Access to technology in the classroom means big ideas for learning to become fully realized. Scholars will use the Chromebooks to help them stay abreast to current scientific research and discoveries by engaging with digital articles and journals, for dissecting current events (typical research to changes and discoveries in science) and be equipped with the necessary tools to comprehend complex problems in high stakes state exams. Our classroom is not yet at the level technologically to meet our scholars needs as learners. Providing them with a class set of Chromebooks will help to close that gap just a little bit more. They will be able to utilize the printer for projects, assignments, and printing out research needed to help understand the biology curriculum. Visuals are very important to help provide that extra help that my students need to conceptualize the topics being taught to them.
