Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students make their first PowerPoint presentation in Room 1. Many of my students access the Internet for research for the first time in Room 1. I believe they should have access to the most high-tech materials, that will help launch them into the world of the 21st century.
My students are amazing.
They come from stories of extreme poverty, violence, and tragedy, and come to school every day ready to learn and work hard. I truly have the Hardest Working Students in Austin. I'm so eager to give them the best of the best so that they are ready to be global citizens. And there are so many problems within their community, and this will help them to understand that they have the ability to make an impact NOW on their community.
My Project
Students will be using the computers and iPads as part of a project-based civics course. Students will identify a problem that they want to solve within their community, have a short mini-lesson on a part of government and civics, and then they will use the remaining time in class to work on solving their problem. They will use the computers and printer, as well as the iPad, in the pursuit of this solution to their problem.
This will give students an opportunity to work with the most high-tech technology available (which is necessary in today's world), in addition to using it to solve a real world problem within their community.
You will be empowering students and helping their larger community as well.
