My students need iPad Minis to help them with their STEM projects. Their current project is for them to develop solar ovens. The iPad Minis are for research stations.
I have the honor and pleasure of teaching 120 of our nations "Best and Brightest." Many of my students have the goal of becoming scientists in the near future.
In our science class we often talk about the use and importance of technology but rarely get a chance to utilize any.
My students are very witty and enthusiastic.
We talk about how they can become whoever they want to be, because they are capable!
The make up of my school is very diverse. We are located in DeKalb county Georgia, where the international population is booming. I have over 5 countries represented in my classroom. These students bring a variety of knowledge from their individual cultures.
We use food and cooking to connect cultures as well as science content.
Food is our safe zone where we do not judge, it just simply allows ourselves to learn about science and each other.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting will be used in station teaching. Station teaching are mini-labs used to teach several tasks at once.
I will use the iPads at technology stations. The iPads will be loaded with apps that allow interactive teaching of topics such as heat energy transfer.
We also will utilize the iPads in group research on solar energy as we begin our solar oven project.
The students will learn how matter is neither created nor destroyed just simply transferred from one thing to the next. They will also be able to showcase their knowledge of technology. Many of them are able to navigate computers and tablets better than most educators.
For those who don't have access to technology at home, they will get a chance at exploring the iPads while in the classroom.
Donations to this project will help in providing technology to our classroom.
It will allow my students access to the latest technology as they are developing their solar oven project.
My students show their gratitude on a daily basis for the littlest of items such as composition notebooks and markers.
I know they will be ecstatic about the addition to technology in our classroom which will allow for them to explore the world around them.
