This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students work to beat overwhelming odds everyday. Each day, they show up to school, wanting to learn. There are so many barriers that they fight against; poverty, language, disabilities. And yet, each day, they continue to come into my classroom to learn.
My students are living in a world with technology that they don't have access to on their own.
A typical day in my classroom is working on reading comprehension skills. My seventh grade students come to me completely unprepared to read and understand grade level work, and they need materials to help them succeed.
Poverty and language barriers are only some of the barriers my students face in order to become proficient readers. Many of my students have learning disabilities, and working with technology and new computers will help prepare them for the technology-driven real world. My students are well below grade level, but I can see they want to learn and succeed in school, and these computers will help.
My Project
Having this set of Chromebooks will allow for differentiation in my classroom. Working in special education, the needs of my students are very diverse. Being able to change a lesson, story, learning game almost instantly will increase productivity in my students. My students with disabilities will be able to not only read stories, but listen to them as well through reading programs. My ESL students will also be able to translate complex texts with ease through Google Translate.
The Chromebooks will also be used for Google Classroom, which will give the students the freedom of choosing the stories to read, to create a love of reading, as well as a love of learning.
Having technology in the classroom will help students learn how to properly use computers, as well as prepare them for a future in a world that runs on technology.
