My Students

Children love to express themselves: sharing knowledge, curiosities and ideas. Students in my class are self motivated to learn about various subjects. They are encouraged to push their thinking and become learners as well as teachers to their peers, sharing ideas and problem solving strategies.

Students at my campus attend grades TK-5 and current enrollment is about 650.

In the upper grades we have 30 students per classroom. My class is diverse in background knowledge, their skill levels and their learning needs, but all produce better quality written work when they have access to productivity technology. They are hard working and committed to doing well in school, and clamor for access to learning tools that could facilitates research and writing. My 4th grade students are children of a technology-enhanced existence. They regularly use personal technology devices, and enthusiastically take on new opportunities to learn more about them. Since web-based research, keyboarding compositions, and now skill assessments have become such an integral part of students' educational lives, it makes sense that providing regular access to the tools technology adds value to their learning and excitement about learning.

My Project

Writing in all its forms can be difficult for many students simply because their developing fine motor skills limit their ability to put words on paper. This also explains their reluctance to write multiple drafts and improve writing quality. Technology changes all that. This year my fourth graders will work hard to become proficient in completing Google Chrome-based research projects. My fourth graders will compose and revise writing pieces using Google Docs. Students will use their projects in oral presentations and cumulative writing projects. Despite having to share the resources over twice as many students, these Google Chromebooks will benefit my students in many ways giving them the ability to communicate their ideas and share their knowledge more efficiently and with more enthusiasm. Students will acquire skills that will serve them for the rest of their academic lives and into their careers.

In fourth grade, whether we're delving into our historical past, exploring principles of science, composing persuasive arguments in essay, or responding to literature, Google Chromebooks will provide the technology we need to be productive and successful.

Ideally suited to conducting web searches, and writing, illustrating and revising compositions, and generally growing student communication skills, they are the key to growing my student's 21st century skills.
