Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Teach the children well and let them lead the way," this line is from Greatest Love of All, by Michael Masser and Linda Creed. And I firmly believe what the song says. In this day and age of technology, it is still vital that children have the opportunity to use technology on a regular basis. We need to teach children strong technological skills because they will, one day, lead the way in this technological age.
My students come from very diverse backgrounds.
They also have diverse ability levels. We are in a large school district that has been severely hit by budget cuts. We have very few supplies and there is definitely no money to be spent on "extras." My class is full of curious students who love to learn through hands-on lessons. They are bright and enjoy learning. They need exposure to lessons that cannot be taught using just the materials supplied by our district.
My Project
These Chromebooks will serve many purposes in our classroom. The students will use them during small group time to access various components of our curriculum as well as reading, social studies, and math practice sites. When we work with our robotics and engineering materials, the Chromebooks will be used to program the projects. As the students work on research projects, the Chromebooks will be used to look up and research information.
The Chromebooks will give students access to technology that many of them do not have at home.
Students will access online programs that have been purchased by the school such as LEXIA, which helps improve reading and reading comprehension, Mystery Science, the math, social studies, and language arts student books, and much more. These Chromebooks will also give the students opportunities to access Google docs lessons they do in our computer lab. And, it will allow me to start using Google docs to assign projects, give assessments, etc. The Chromebooks have an endless number of uses in my classroom, and students for many years will benefit from them.
