My students need an iPad for the classroom. This would be an excellent tool for my students with autism and would capture their attention and desire to learn.

My Students
Can you imagine not having the ability to talk and communicate? My students have autism and communication is a challenge for them. I have seen my students use an iPad with their speech therapist and it is amazing to see them respond and have the desire to step out of their world and into ours!
My students are 3 year olds and they all have been diagnosed with autism or have met the criteria for the autism program.
As of next week I will have 17 children in my class. We are part of the public school system. My students range from severe to mild autism and they are both fascinating and challenging. It is important to try to reach them through early intervention. Children with autism are so unique and such a joy to work with. They really love computers and smartboards, anything involving technology. It is amazing the level of skill some of these young children have when it comes to technology. I cannot imagine working with any other students other than my babies with autism. They really bring a lot of insight into my life every day!
My Project
Children with autism can be difficult to motivate and engage. An iPad would be an excellent way to motivate the students as well as teach new skills. I have seen my students use iPads with our speech therapist and it was amazing to see them identify colors, shapes, numbers, and letters using interactive websites. There is no budget for the purchase of an iPad and I feel my students would really open up and expand their readiness skills if they were exposed to this resource. Autistic children can be extremely difficult to reach and using technology seems to be one avenue that really brings them into our world.
I want to give my children with autism every opportunity to be successful and reach their full potential.
I feel an iPad would be an excellent teaching tool for my students. We are in the public school system and I have a difficult time even getting basic supplies, so I know an iPad is out of the question. I really want to open every door I can for my students and give them all I can give them to take them as far as they can possibly go!
