This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The science of today is the technology of tomorrow" ~Edward Teller. Some of my students don't have access to technology and having a computer available during science is a great way to expand their knowledge in the classroom.
I am very lucky to work at a charter school in Harlem and teach a great group of second and third grade scientists.
Eighty five percent of the student body receives free or reduced lunch. They are very energetic and thirsty for knowledge. They love completing experiments, hands on projects, and researching topics of interest.
My Project
With a computer available during science, I will be able to integrate science and technology by giving students the opportunity to research topics of interest, topics about the current unit, and research different scientists and their discoveries. One activity we will need the computer for is an upcoming research project on nutrition. With a computer in the classroom, students will spend time during class comparing and contrasting the different food groups and learning about healthy food choices.
This project will improve my classroom by giving children the opportunity to use technology every day.
Students will be able to actively make choices on how to generate, obtain, or display information. I will also be able to display short clips and experiments on a white board to tie in with the lesson of the day.
