Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from a low-income, inner city neighborhood in Houston, Texas that serves kids from PK-8th grade. The majority of them are first-generation immigrants. Despite having very limited resources, my students persevere and are eager to learn. I have seen them walk in the pouring rain just to come to Saturday tutorials because that is how important their learning is to them. They take ownership of their learning. This is why they would benefit greatly from having technology and STEM project base learning in our classroom.
My Project
As wonderful as my school is, unfortunately like most inner-city schools we have a lack of technology. In my classroom the current student to computer ratio is 6 to 1.
My students will use these Chromebooks for math stations, STEM math & science activities and to learn how to code.
As well as to access math educational websites such as Prodigy, Khan Academy and Imagine Math, websites that help students learn at their own pace. Having Chromebooks will help my students develop the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century.
"Technology has the power to teach, motivate, captivating and transform a classroom into a training ground for the next generation of artist, entrepreneurs and leaders. "(Silicon Valley Business Journal, 1997)
Thank you so much for believing in what we are doing in our classroom, any kind of support will be greatly appreciated.
