"A teacher is a compass that activates the magnets of curiosity, knowledge, and wisdom in the pupils." -Ever Garrison
I have Spanish, ESE and Haitian students.
My class is very diverse with very little parent support. My students are very motivated and enthusiastic loving students. We are a Title I school without a lot of funding and 90% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Our curriculum focuses on reading, writing, and listening skills at a very young age.
Our school continues to receive new students daily as a direct result of the near total destruction of their homeland, Puerto Rico, by the devastating hurricane last summer. These students enter our school and are immediately playing catch up because most have not attended school since last spring. School is a safe place for students to escape from daily issues. They lack many basic academic tools such as technology. My students have recently experienced similar hardship from the impact of Hurricane Irma.
Having a safe place to look forward to attending daily, coupled with updated technology, will allow students to complete assigned work while having fun.
With new laptops, students will be able to access online textbooks, complete lessons, phonics, vocabulary, listening comprehension, play academic games, practice standardized assessments, and be given the chance to forgot about their recent hurricane-related stress.
