My Students
Nelson Mandela said that "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". Well, he was right, and it is my job to get my students to see this and take action in their own education. Having iPad technology in the classroom will help to make this happen.
The students I teach are 7th and 8th graders who are bright, charismatic, and, above all, creative, but not always excited about the educational process.
I work at a public, inner city school that takes any students who live in the surrounding area. Many of my students are English language learners, former English language learners, or within special education programs. Almost all are economically disadvantaged. However, despite the obstacles, they turn up to school day after day to learn ELA and reading skills in my classes with skepticism but willingness to try anything (especially if it involves creativity or technology).
My Project
With these iPad resources, my classroom will be more easily able to implement the new technology-based learning program that we designed to engage students in literacy and create a school culture that values education. My students will use the iPads to upload their drafts and published work to a class blog as well as use their creative inclinations to create videos, collages, and other art with the aim of enhancing their published work and understanding of literature. Additionally, the blog will allow them to view and comment on one another's work and aid in nurturing a productive and positive classroom environment. Because of the limited amount of technology, the students will also gain much needed cooperative skills while creating art and written work together. All in all, students will grow in important life skills as well as enhance their ELA skills and value of education.
Middle school is an important time in the life of students.
Donations to this project will help to provide much-needed technology that will give middle schoolers a chance to let their creativity and writing shine for all to see online. This adds a sense of agency to their own education and will help to create life-long lovers of learning.
