it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are ready to tackle Advanced Placement Calculus AB and BC but they need to have access to graphing calculators both at school and at home. With over 100 AP Calculus students per year, the ability to have the technology available for students would increase their chances for success.
My students are from an urban Title 1 school where resources have been limited over the past few years.
They are bright, academically ambitious, and desire to achieve at the highest possible levels of mathematics. Our AP Calculus AB and BC classes have grown from barely one class section four years ago to now over 100 students per year. My students demand the opportunity to have the same rigor and opportunity as any other school. However, they still need to gain access to graphing calculators in school and at home.
My Project
I am requesting 15 TI-Nspire CAS calculators to make available for my students to use on a daily basis in class, and to check out overnight. These calculators in particular are capable of allowing students to perform calculations and verify their work quickly and efficiently. I already have some calculators available, but not at the 1 to 1 ratio I would like to have, where students can use in class and take home throughout the school year. Gaining these resources will allow students the continual access to an essential tool that will better their preparedness, understanding, and ability to explore AP Calculus AB and BC.
Bridging the technology gap is essentially for preparing my AP Calculus students with the prerequisite knowledge that will allow them success in STEM fields of study in their future college studies.
Giving my AP students the ability to familiarize and become fluent in the most up to date technology available will give them a better chance at success with their academic and career goals.
