My Students

Steve Jobs said, "My job is not to be easy on people. My job is to make them better." This is my daily philosophy when I enter my classroom. My students strive to do their best and master the difficult skills I put before them. Together we become better learners throughout the school year.

My students are part of a very unique learning community in an Illinois charter school, where over thirty languages are spoken and cultures are represented.

More than 95 percent of my students receive free or reduced lunch. They are smart and focused youth who love to learn, and apply themselves to their work. Our school provides my students with no more than basic materials such as calculators and textbooks. I work hard to fill the opportunity gaps and offer my students more unique materials. My students thrive when challenged, learn more completely and remember more when the facts become their own. The students in my class perform much better and are much more motivated when they have a hands-on and individualized way to apply their knowledge.

My Project

Many of my students do not have any computer access at home. Yet so much of our world is ran by technology and it is critical that I prepare my students for this technology based world. We will use the iPad in our classroom in a few different ways. In writing class a student will be able to practice their typing skills. They will also be able to work on any last minute research. Most of the time I have mathematicians in my class. These students will thrive with the iPad. These students will use the new technology as remediation. Students will be able to work on skills that are specific to what they need. Whether it is to practice basic skills my students are missing or learning advanced concepts, the iPad will always be in use.

My students will greatly benefit from being able to practice skills that are on their level.

This iPad will be the component that allows my students to become a better mathematician or writer, and really feel confident in mastering the many challenges I give them every day.
