Lectures are an ineffective use of our limited class time. With the help of these tablets, I am going to "flip" my classroom. Students will watch my lectures at home, and we will use our class time for hands-on projects meant to boost learning, student engagement, and higher-order thinking skills.
My students are a diverse population of primarily military students.
We live in a moderately impoverished area, and many of my students struggle to buy the basic necessities for their educational experience, but they are hard workers, and they are so appreciative of your donations.
My Project
Technology has become an increasingly important part of the business world as well as our daily lives. Education must keep up, or our students will not be able to meet the advancing technology needs waiting for them outside of school.
Many of my students do have internet-capable devices at home, but for some, it is out of their reach. I would like to create a library of tablets that students can check-out to keep up with school work at home.
This year, I am flipping my classroom, which means students will watch my interactive lectures at home and do the hands-on, engaging work in the classroom with me.
Schools that are using the flipped classroom strategy are seeing huge gains in attendance, student engagement, positive behavior, and mastery. I am eager to see those changes for myself, but it will only work if each student is able to log in to my virtual classroom from home and keep up with our daily lessons and lectures.
