My 8th graders are from various cultural backgrounds. I work in an Inclusive classroom setting where some students are Special Needs and English Language Learners. Many do not have technology at home, but would love the experience to better use technology for their classwork.
Our school is launching toward technology-based learning, but being a Title I school in New York City makes it a difficult task to obtain proper technology.
My goal for the 2016-2017 school year is to create more project-based learning in which students can utilize tablets.
Not only for project based learning, but students can use Apps and activities for classroom engagement (I am hoping to expand to a class set of iPads in the near future).
My Project
This tablet will allow my Special Education and ELL students to research in groups. This will make a difference in their life by allowing them to understand teamwork - but also building knowledge by working together.
This will improve school life by incorporating more project-based learning into the classroom - in which the students take control of the lesson and become the teachers in creating presentations and improving their writing.
This is a great tool for ELLs to research academic vocabulary for language acquisition. Using tablets for research will allow the students to internalize the vocabulary and utilize it in their everyday vocabulary.
