My students need Sphero robots to learn programming skills and watch them come to life. They also need makey makey kits to explore the way remotes, wires and programming works.
I am the librarian/media specialist for our school. Our library is the hub of our school. It is always buzzing with activity. If we had technology tools in hand to teach beginning programming and robotics our students could develop a love for technology at an early age.
Our students make up a very diverse population.
We have a very large multicultural population as well as students that come from high poverty family situations. Our varying cultures make us who we are and a unique school family. We never want a child's economic status to interfere with their academic careers. In a highly competitive world in the field of technology I want our students to have equal opportunities to succeed. Our students have bright, talented, and amazing young minds. We take pride in our school and our students. We all share a common goal: equipping our students to succeed!
My Project
Imagine a small section in the library that is always set up as a technology station. If you choose to donate to my project our students will have 2 Sphero robots to program as well as 4 Makey Makey kits. These Makey Makey kits allow the users to turn inanimate objects into robotic devices. With these kits bananas can become a remote control or a blank wall could become a keyboard. The possibilities for our students creations with these devices are endless. Students will come to the library individually or in small groups to program and create robots and other technology related devices. Our students will be able to feel pride creating their own inventions. Our school also participates in a technology fair but the students have been required in the past to provide their own project. With the addition of the materials our students can participate in groups and feel successful!
A technology station within our library will change the lives of our students.
Our children love to learn and this will enhance their academic stills beyond the text books in reading and math. They will get hands on experience with technology while creating their own project.
