My fifth graders are creative, hardworking, passionate problem-solvers whom I try to challenge daily. The use of technology enables them to approach problems in another way and gain new knowledge. The joy that lights up their faces when they are able to use technology to enrich their learning keeps me inspired. With the diverse backgrounds my students come from, using technology daily is my favorite way to meet students right where they are! Some need enrichment while others need interventions, and technology makes this differentiated instruction happen naturally.
My students and I are very fortunate in that we attend the most diverse elementary school in the state. While the students in my classes can speak well over thirty languages, a common language they all speak is technology. However, many of them do not have access to technology outside of school and with over 1,400 students in our school, some days students don't get a chance to get online. Adding three Chromebooks to our classroom would enable my students to get their hands on technology daily to enrich their learning in all subject areas. There are so many wonderful resources that offer students immediate feedback in math, reading, science and social studies as well as supportive videos and online articles. Not only will these Chromebooks provide remediation resources for those students who need it, but they will also provide enrichment opportunities. Technology meets the needs of my students!
