My students need a Mac laptop in order to create a Research Center within the classroom for children to research subjects they are interested in and create presentations.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. -Walt Disney
My school is a large, Title I school with a diverse student population, serving large numbers of economically disadvantaged children.
We educate over 1200 kids from pre-k to 5th grade. Resources are limited, particularly with technology, as most classrooms do not have their own computer resources. I teach second graders Spanish in a dual language program (Spanish-English) designed to teach kids fluency in both languages.
My Project
I am requesting a Mac laptop to create a Research Center within my classroom. My students will be able to use the Research Center during their free time and during lessons to research topics of interest from class discussions and for projects, which will facilitate learning other subjects and enhance skills that children inevitably use in other areas.
Research skills are a very effective tool in the attainment of language in all subjects and teaching these skills has always been a valuable teaching method for me as my students begin to learn about research techniques.
With this technology, I will able to incorporate research skills into my students’ lessons in order to better enhance their learning, leading to improved language abilities. It will make complex concepts more accessible and enjoyable and allow my students, a mix of primary English and Spanish speakers from various backgrounds, to learn about new, exciting subjects in a fun, easy way. The Research Center will also allow me to teach the kids how to access online resources designed to enhance learning. This will also keep them current with technology, which is imperative in a technology driven world.
