My students need headphones for the classroom computers and a Chromebook to access district programs.
Have you ever been engaged with a new learning program only to find that the headphones for that computer is having technical difficulties? The Internet is full of opportunities for our students and a simple fix for this particular classroom would open that door.
These determined students are the type that are eager to learn and need the resources to make this happen.
They hit roadblocks when it comes to using technology at home, so they come to the classroom hoping for these opportunities. These students love to reach out to the new and improved activities that are available and will challenge each other to previous learned activities. This particular school is listed as Title 1 and lacks some resources for all students. We have the ability of using a school shared computer lab, but only for a short period of time. We have computer programs that will aid in developing all levels of learners. We also have teacher specialists that aid in students that need that extra push.
We have some computers in each classroom, but we lack the ability to engage in learning programs because the students don't have the ability to hear or interact with various programs. The headphones would allow each group of students to engage with several district set programs, as well as some activities that will allow groups of students to present their learning visually and audibly. We have used the typical cardboard style presentations with pictures and cutouts, but the Chromebook will allow students to present facts and information through Educreations, create a video using the computer capabilities and even watch videos that will extend their learning on SchoolTube.
Donations to fund headphones and a chromebook will further develop the student's access to the ever changing technology that is happening in our world.
A teacher can only engage a student to a point. A teacher can add extensions to a student's learning by simply adding bits and pieces of what a computer can provide to them. A short movie clip, an online game, or even connecting to another classroom across the planet will aid in the eagerness for a student to learn.
