This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology plays a big part in our students' education. Most of my students do not have access to a computer at home and school is the only place they would be able to use technology as a learning tool.
This year I have the opportunity to work with 21 of the most wonderful Kindergarten students you could ever meet.
The majority of them come from an extremely low socio-economic area in Southern California. They attend a great one-hundred year old school and all qualify for the free lunch program.
My Project
Having access to LeapPads will allow my students to experience reading in a whole new way. During Guided reading time I work with a small group and have to find creative ways to keep the other groups engaged and reading. The technology I'm seeking will enable me to create a center where kids can independently read and touch the text to help them sound out words. The LeapPads will help reinforce the phonics, comprehension and vocabulary skills we are working on in class.
Having the LeapPads in my classroom will expose my students to the technology which they otherwise would not get a chance to experience.
But most importantly, the LeapPads will allow my students to learn reading, writing, and math skills in a great new way.
