This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a low socioeconomic school where most of my students predominantly speak Spanish. My students are at varying levels of academic ability. Parents do their best to help at home, but most of them do not speak the language. They are striving their hardest to learn as much as they can considering the obstacles they face and most importantly they come to school eager to learn. Our school is a Title I school with a majority of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
These students need high interest and hands-on materials to stay engaged in our reading lessons.
Not only are these students working to learn how to read and fine tune their gross motor skills, many of them are learning a new language! I want them to have all of the tools they need to be as successful as possible.
My Project
Developmentally appropriate use of technology, iPads, can help young children cognitively grow, learn and be ready for the future. PreK can play an active role in teaching student to use this tool in their play, solve problems, and language development.
Using iPads and the internet can enhance daily life and allow students to appreciate different cultures and people.
iPads allow students to visit and explore places that they would not see otherwise. They get to see visuals that are important for this age when learning. Most importantly, they get to interact with something they are used to and that engages them.
All children deserve a chance for a good education and a positive future, having technology in the classroom is the first step.
