This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a special education teacher who serves students three to four years old with a variety of disabilities. What I love about my students is, they all bring something different to the classroom with their varying personalities. What make them special is their resilience, their determination to learn, and their love for school. I also love how they participate daily in our classroom activities despite their disabilities. This MacBook will make a difference in their learning because I will be able to incorporate and plan appropriate use of 21st Century Skills for them. We have a whiteboard and a projector, but we do not have an appropriate device to use. Technology can be a great equalizer for students with disabilities that might prevent full participation in school. It is very important for students with mobility, hearing, or vision impairments, but is also good for students with limitations in cognition and perception.
Developmentally appropriate use of technology can help my students grow and learn, especially when their families and early educators like myself play an active role in their lives.
My early learners can use technology to explore new worlds, make believe, and actively engage in fun and challenging activities. Having technology in the classroom, it can be used as a tool to motivate them. It will also provide another avenue for my students to explore concepts and skills and may assist them in developing an understanding of a lesson that was previously a challenge. Technology also provides students the opportunity for self-correcting, try again and problem solving. Finally, technology and interactive media are tools that can promote effective learning and development when they are used intentionally by early childhood educators like myself, within the framework of developmentally appropriate practice, to support learning goals established for individual student.
