My students need iPads to assist them in investigating what piques their curiosity; set, reach and surpass academic goals; practice and teach what they are learning; and, to record and share their journeys.
My students enter our classroom ready to work hard, make mistakes, roll up their sleeves and work some more until they reach their goals. They show up every day to grow their brains!
Each day my students walk in from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and experiences.
But those differences aren't what stand out if you spend time in our room. What is most obvious in our class is the incredible amount of shared curiosity.
My kids work hard and push themselves every single day. They ask questions like there's no tomorrow. They aren't afraid to fail because they know that means they're trying. And, they support one another in an amazing educational journey.
My Project
The key to teaching and learning is tapping into each students' interest, making the work relevant and finding an entry point for each person to be successful. With iPads, students can work independently, with a partner or in small groups to review and interact with concepts in a variety of ways simultaneously. There are endless apps and websites to support all levels of learners in all subject areas.
With access to iPads, disengaged students, English language learners, students with IEPs, grade level and advanced learners will take more ownership of their learning.
The iPads also offer the opportunity for students to become teachers when they save and share what they have learned. It is no secret 10-year-olds are almost always far more interesting to other 10-year-olds than an adult teacher will ever be! Why fight it when instead you can capitalize on it!
