My students need Lenovo 500e Chromebooks to develop their academic skills for success in 21st-century educational environments, motivate their learning, and help them to be competitive in the job market.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I middle school (6th to 8th grade). Most of my students are two or more grade levels below their current grade in reading, writing, and/or math. Many of my students live in low socioeconomic neighborhoods and come from families that are educationally and economically challenged. I truly admire and am humbled by the tenacity my students have to battle the developmental, cognitive, and/or academic challenges they face every day.
Our school is located in close proximity to a major military base; 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My hope is to promote a love and excitement for learning so that my students will be inspired to continue their education and not drop out. I want my students to know that college and worthwhile careers are possible for them.
My Project
I would like to provide my students with Lenovo 500e Chromebooks. These computers will provide my students with access to countless resources for advancing and enhancing their learning. The benefits of the Lenovo 500e Chromebook are the versatility of its use and durability. It has a 360-degree hinge allowing it to bend into four different modes – Laptop, Tablet, Tent, or Stand and it is designed to be Drop, Knock, and Spill-proof which is a huge advantage in terms of keeping necessary technology in working order.
The Lenovo 500e Chromebook affords each student the opportunity to learn how to interact with different types of technology in one piece of equipment and use it in the manner that best suits their individual learning style and needs.
My students will use the Lenovo 500e Chromebooks in the classroom to extend their learning in English Language Arts and Mathematics. They will complete assignments posted on Google Classroom including using Google Suite and various learning sites. The touchscreen feature, with the included EMR pen, will allow my students to write class notes on the computer screen, illustrate and or annotate documents, and show steps on math problems. They will also be able to be creative and develop their critical thinking skills, study, work, conduct research, read books, and type reports. Additionally, my students will be able to communicate and collaborate with other students in real-time and organize group video projects using either one or both of the front or back facing webcams. And with a 10 hour Battery life, completing work without the loss of battery life is a big plus.
My wish and ultimate goal is to eventually build our technology base and provide each one of my very deserving students with a Touchscreen Chromebook for their learning needs.
