Technology Brings the World to Our Fingertips

Help me give my students the technology support they need to be successful with headphones, a charging station, books, and subscriptions to TIME for kids.

My Students

My second grade students are from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Just over 50% of my school receives free and reduced lunch. There is an increasingly high percentage of English as a second language learners at my school.

The students in my classroom have limited opportunities to learn outside of the classroom.

By enhancing my classroom with stimulating and engaging methods of learning; my students will be better prepared for various life experiences and have a deeper understanding, importance, need, and thirst for education.

My Project

My second grade students currently have access to iPads. The iPads are used for all subject areas for research, reading and math interventions and daily centers. I only have a limited amount of headphones to share among my students. With Covid protocols in place, it is difficult and time consuming to continually clean and disinfect the headphones. If each student is given their own set of headphones, the need to disinfect will be greatly minimized. It is also very difficult to charge the iPads because my classroom is only equipped with a limited amount of outlets. The charging station will allow me to charge multiple iPads at one time so the iPads are always ready and accessible for my students.

My students need help with reading fluency and overall reading skills.

Therefore, I have also requested two listening center books and CDs to help my students improve their reading skills. I am also requesting Time for Kids magazine to help my students read and learn about current events. These materials create a hands on approach to learning and will keep my students engaged throughout the learning process. These resources will address standards RF.2.3, RF.2.4, RF.2.4a, RF.2.4b, RF.2.4c.
