Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come into our classroom every day excited about "growing their brain"! If you asked them what they would like to do at school today, that will be their answer. I am grateful I get to witness their little eyes light up everyday when they learn something new.
Despite the lack of resources and other challenges my students face everyday, they come to school with a love for learning that is contagious.
I teach at a Title I school in Missouri where 100% of our students receive free breakfast, lunch and many also receive free dinner. Our school is a magnet school in an inner city school district. Students that attend our school receive an education specialized in a foreign language. For many years the district has struggled with academic achievement but we have been in a steady climb for the last 2 years. I am excited to continue to rise our academic achievement and provide our students with an equitable education.
My Project
For the first time in the nine years I have been teaching in my district our kindergarten will have reliable technology to help them maximize their learning. Each kindergarten student will have access to an Ipad which will be used as part of their learning experiences in practice stations. The Osmos kit comes with five academic games that focuses on different areas: spatial thinking, phonics, number sense, problem solving, and science. The system's language can be changed in the setting, which will allow my students to practice and continue learning their second language as they play games on their Ipads.

These kits promote visual thinking, creativity, and problem solving skills. The system also provide immediate feedback to the student, allowing them more independence when learning new skills.
I have seen how much more engage students are when technology is used and having these materials will ensure my students are engaged in high quality academic work.
