My Students

Integrating technology into the classroom is such an important part of the teaching world today. Technology is a wonderful tool to excite, motivate and help children learn. I am ready to implement technology into my classroom; however the current computers in my classroom are old and outdated!

The students you will be donating to are a very special bunch.

My students are considered to have special needs and need to be in a self contained special education class (12:1:1), which is a smaller environment with less distractions where I can focus on their individual needs. My class consists of students who have cognitive, emotional, social and physical delays. Their disabilities range from speech and language impaired, autism, health impairments, emotionally disturbed and learning disabled. They are very energetic and very busy! My students inspire me everyday because even though they have cognitive or health impairments they are still full of life and have beautiful and joyful spirits.

My Project

Having a technology center in my classroom will allow for children to learn at their own pace, have choice in what they are learning (depending on the different activities of the program), and become active participants in their own learning. Having a tool that allows students to work at their own pace is crucial in a special education classroom because each student has a specific set of needs. While some of my students are engaged and learning through educational computer programs, I can work with small groups of students targeting their individual needs creating higher learning outcomes. I am also requesting these computers because as a special educator I am required to create individualized education programs (IEP) for each one of my students and this process is all done on line. Having old computers in my classroom with no printer makes this process very slow and challenging!

I am requesting, 4 notebooks with accessories and a printer to create a technology center in my classroom.

This new technology center will allow me to reach more of my students' individual needs. I have reading programs, as well as many wonderful online websites, I wish to use with the children. However, it is not possible at this current time because the computers are just not efficient. This technology center will give my students the tools they need to learn and grow.
