Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The desire to succeed, to be a productive member of society, to achieve that which others say you cannot, these are ideals that not singular owned by those who may be considered normal. These are desires we all possess and endeavor to achieve in our own ways.
My students are no different in that they benefit greatly through experiences that others might say are impossible.
But if one can dream it than one can fulfill that dream, it just takes patience, guidance and someone who cares enough to fill their wings.
My students are all in an intensive autism classroom. Most of these kids are viewed as not having or possessing skills that we take for granted, such as verbal communication or visible abilities, but this is not true. All of the students are capable of more than anyone could believe. They possess a spirit that is untouchable and deeper than any ocean. I have made it my path to give them all that I can so that they can go out lead this world, achieve their dreams and be the best they can be at whatever they choose to do.
My Project
In high school the opportunities for the most intensive students often times are limited by the availability of resources which seemingly go to the other classes. Our needs are not always the most pressing issues. Making sure our kids gain access to everything other classes have is important to their overall success.
Technology and a leveled playing field for my students is one of the most important gifts I can bring to the table.
I want to continue to add to the overall depth that the current program has by getting equipment like the Chromebooks for our kids to use and access technology. Continuing to expand on our PE Program and adding equipment like a new heavy bag for the martial arts training that the kids get to experience will elevate their experience and abilities. Finally, adding more equipment like an air fryer will allow us to continue to expose our kids to the many diversified recipes that they can independently create in a safe environment.
