This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of 7th/8th grade students with creative skills who enjoy the use of visuals, technology, and hands-on activities in the classroom. I love that they are always enthusiastic about learning and willing to take on new challenges!
Our district is a Title I district with many of our students being multilingual learners and special education students.
In my classroom I serve both of these populations, as I teach special needs students with diverse cultural backgrounds. They work extremely hard to improve their reading and math skills on a daily basis. My students are kind, helpful, curious and overall hard working kids that deserve to learn in the most ideal environment for their academic success. They are dedicated and continually exemplify what it means to be resilient.
My Project
Due to various socioeconomic barriers, not all students have equal access to technology inside and outside of the classroom. Distance learning and hybrid instruction has made it increasingly difficult to engage our learners in collaborative activities while ensuring lessons are effective and safe. In its current state, most students are at home on computers while the students in person are working with traditional paper activities. This means that both groups of students, although learning the same topic, are working with different platforms and modalities. To help bridge the technological gap, we plan to use the tablets to ensure instruction is uniform and research-based regardless if the child is at home or in the classroom. With an ever-growing library of technological resources like NearPod, Kahoot, and BookCreator (to name a few), these tablets will ensure students not only are provided an effective lesson, but also that they will enjoy class in the process. Various learning games and programs are readily available on the tablets which make learning more fun and effective for our students. Additionally, such technological programs improves instruction by providing real-time feedback of student responses to help the educator make educational decisions both in class and afterwards. Lastly, the tablets will help ensure our students develop crucial 21st century technological skills that are vital for college/career readiness. Please consider donating to our cause as we try and create a more equitable learning environment for our most at-risk population of students.
